Nocturnal Bird - Stuorra Skuolfi

Northern people of the year

An endangered eagle-owl (Bubo bubo) is looking for a place to settle.

in the tight grip of stitched stitches

in the dark, soft swaddling, from day to night

someone in the landscape seemed to fade into the ground

even between the fingers and toes; hot, warm, lukewarm, cool, cold

The features of the eagle-owl character are revealed - and yet it remains to be seen what it will take to bring them into the light of day. The performance weaves together contradictions; it plays with the eagle-owl theatrical costume, then spins itself around and carries the viewer to the other side of the story. The performance delves into dance as a medium for telling a complex story.

Gáddjá Haarla Pieski is a young, award-winning dancer, performance artist, and choreographer. She studied in Helsinki and Brussels and has performed at events including Bodø2024 and the Venice Biennale. At the 2024 Kuopio Dance Festival, she was named Young Dance Artist of the Year.

Now she comes to Riddu Riđđu with a dance performance that invites audiences to explore the complex character of the eagle-owl. Through costumes, dance, and performance, the work weaves together contradictions, taking the audience to the other side of the story.
