In connection with the art exhibition I’m a Sámi Boy, we will experience a performance by Ritni Pieski, where he explores themes of Sámi masculinity and manhood through the use of humor. 

This adds yet another artistic expression to this fantastic exhibition – so get excited! 

In the performance, he explores themes surrounding Sámi masculinity and manhood through the use of humor. 

The estimated time of the performance is 10 minutes. 

 

Bio: 

Máret Ásllat Ivvár Ovllá Nilla Ritni Ráste Pieski, also known by his drag persona Ritni Tears, is a Deanu river sámi storyteller from the, as well as a drag artist, choreographer, dancer, and performer. His work revolves around themes of decoloniality, radical dreaming, queering, and humor. 

Pieski’s recent projects include Indigenous Drag Excellence XXL and Girjái – a decolonial queer utopia. He graduated from the University of the Arts Theatre Academy in 2023 with a bachelor’s degree in dance and works as a freelance artist. In drag, he is known as Ritni Tears

His first photo exhibition, Min olbmot, created in collaboration with Lotta Hagelin, presents Sámi drag portraits, combining visual photography with written stories. The exhibition serves as a tribute to the rich tradition of Sámi storytelling. 

Beyond his artistic practice, Ritni Ráste has been an active advocate for queer Sámi issues within his community. He was the main organizer of Sápmi Pride 2021 in his home municipality in Ohcejohka, Sápmi.
