Suõmmkar
Get ready for Suõmmkar at Riddu Riđđu!
Suõmmkar combines traditional Skolt Sámi music with modern sounds. The lead vocalists, Anna Lumikivi and Hanna-Maaria Kiprianoff, present a contemporary perspective on traditional Skolt Sámi music. Joining them are musicians Marko Jouste (mandolin, guitar), Pessi Jouste (violin), Uula Jouste (bass), and Elias Nieminen (drums and percussion).
The group released their debut album Suõmmkar in 2018. The album features both original compositions and traditional melodies sourced from historical archive collections. It reflects how the Skolt Sámi language and culture have endured and remained alive through centuries and many challenging historical periods.
Their second album, Peäccam da Paččjokk, will be released in 2025. The album focuses on the Skolt Sámi local traditions from the regions of Peäccam and Paččjokk—the ancestral homelands of both Anna Lumikivi’s and Hanna-Maaria Kiprianoff’s families.
Suõmmkar offers an exciting soundscape that we are truly looking forward to hearing at Riddu-sletta!
