Sew a duhpátlávka

Workshop
Riddu siida

Learn to sew your own duhpátlávka (traditional Sámi tobacco pouch) during three inspiring workshop days!

A duhpátlávka is a beautiful and traditional Sámi everyday object. Originally used by Sámi men to carry tobacco and pipes, it is now a popular accessory worn with the gákti (traditional Sámi dress) or as a stylish item for everyday use - regardless of gender.

In this workshop, you will receive a thorough introduction to traditional techniques and materials. Under the expert guidance of instructor Pia Jannok, you will follow the entire process - from pattern making and cutting to sewing and finishing your very own pouch.

The workshop is suitable for both beginners and those with previous experience in duodji (traditional Sámi handicrafts).

The workshop takes place over three days, from Thursday to Saturday, from 10:00 AM to 4:00 PM.

The registration fee is NOK 1,000 and covers all material costs.

Note to participants:

As part of our efforts to strengthen, preserve, and pass on Sámi cultural heritage, this workshop is reserved for Sámi participants. The workshop provides access to traditional knowledge that we wish to support and carry forward to future generations.

If the workshop does not fill up, we will of course open registration to non-Sámi participants.
