A week of national day celebrations with Riddu Riđđu
From February 4th until February 6th Riddu Riđđu will hold Sámi national day celebrations in cooperation with Center for northern peoples, Nord-Troms Museum, Giellasiida and Ivgu Sámesearvi. During the week you can attend a plethora of events, ranging from short film programs and several concerts to a brand new exhibition about the history of fisheries in the region.
The celebrations kick off Tuesday February 4th at 6PM with a screening of the three short films Hvor ble det av ferga mi?, Red-Shaded Green and Áhččhi – han pappa by Sámi director Johannes Vang. The director will be in attendance and will be giving an introduction. samiske regissøren Johannes Vang. Regissøren er selv til stede og innleder.
Wednesday February 5th at 8 PM you can catch Arvvas in concert. Arvvas is a duo consisting of Sámi yoiker Sara Marielle Gaup and norwegian bass player and singer Steinar Raknes. We are really looking forward to Arvvas presenting their exciting and unique blend of yoik and americana.

Thursday February 6th starts at 10 AM with raising of the Sámi flag and singing of the Sámi national anthem outside Senter for nordlige folk
Torsdag 6. februar starter med flaggheising klokken 10:00 på Senter for nordlige folk.
From 3 PM Fra 15:00 the Café at Center for northern peoples is open to the public, and at 5 PM the national day address will be delivered by Runar Myrnes Balto, member of the Governing Council of the Sámi Parliament. The adress will be followed by a performance by the Kåfjord choir, and a concert with Skárfvággi artist Elina Ijäs.
With her soft and expressive voice Elina Ijäs conveys honest and vulnerable lyrics in the northern Sámi language. Her music is a reflection of the experiences of life, creating an introspective atmosphere sure to sway and move you, regardless of language barriers.
Despite her young age Elina Ijäs is a seasoned performer both in Sápmi and beyond, and she has several releases under her belt, both as a solo artist and in collaboration with other Sámi artists. She has recently performed at the Riddu Riđđu main stage with both Manne and Emil Kárlsen.
The concert is free and open for everyone!
All week you can also catch the exhibition Maskebett og nål on the history of fisheries in Northern Troms.
All the above events take place at Center for northern peoples.
Other events during the week include a book bus (library) tour with storytelling sessions in Nordreisa, Lyngen, Skjervøy, Kåfjord and Storfjord, and the week ends with a concert with Felgen Orkester at Davás in Olmmáivággi.
