Our new communications manager
We’re happy to finally share that we’re strengthening our team with Signe Bertine Birkeland Johnsen as our new Communications Manager. Signe is a familiar face in the Riddu Riđđu context and has been involved since she was a child—first as bargi nuorat, then as a summer staff member, and now as a full-time employee. We’re truly delighted that she has accepted the position and are really looking forward to welcoming her to the team!
As Communications Manager, Signe will work extensively with marketing strategies and content production for social media, the website, press, and other channels, as well as internal communications.
Signe has previously worked two summers with our communications team, where she was closely involved in content production and other communication tasks related to the festival’s preparation and execution. She has also completed a one-year program in Sámi language at UiT. We also know her well as a young person deeply engaged in Sámi rights and the revitalization of the Sea Sámi youth perspective, a topic she has written opinion pieces about.
Signe herself says:
“It’s incredibly exciting to take on this role at Riddu Riđđu. Being part of carrying the festival forward means a lot to me. I’m from Manndalen and have more or less grown up on the Riddu field, where the festival has been an important arena for strengthening my understanding of the importance of community and Indigenous struggles. I’m really looking forward to getting started and to helping further develop such an important festival as Riddu Riđđu. And it’s also wonderful to be moving back home to Kåfjord!”
Festival Director Sajje Solbakk is very pleased with the appointment:
“It’s a great pleasure to welcome Signe to this role. She has grown up with Riddu Riđđu and knows the festival from the inside. Signe combines broad experience from the festival with a genuine commitment to Sámi language, culture, and youth perspectives. We’re proud to have her on the team!”
Signe will start her position as Communications Manager on April 1, and will therefore be involved in much of the lead-up to the festival. Please join us in giving her a warm welcome!
