The national year of languages

This year it is the national year of languages and Riddu Riđđu has given room to the Sami languages ​​in the program. Did you know there are ten Saami languages? The illustration shows that languages ​​is stretching across borders, but in addition, there are also different dialects.

In partnership with Kåfjord Language Center and Sámi Giellagáldu, Riddu Riđđu presents all Sami languages in a booklet published during the festival. The language booklet is illustrated by the talented Sami artist Anders Sunna (Sápmi/ Sweden), who was the festival's young artists in 2009.  Various artists with different expressions has been commissioned to create something new in their language. All artists have got at handful of words to inspiration, the words were selected on a Sami language conference this spring. Lovisa Negga (Lapland / Sweden) has created a new song in Lule Sami langauge, which will be premiered during her concert at Riddu Riđđu. Sarakka Gaup (Sápmi / Norway) has created a monologue in Northern Sami language, that will be shown as a cultural element before the seminars. Author and poet Sigbjørn Skåden (Sápmi / Norway) will write and perform a new poem in Northern Sami language, with his Skånland dialect. In addition, the writer and poet, Rawdna Carita Eira (Sápmi / Norway) will write and perform a new poem in Northern Sami language.
