Circumpolar launch during TIFF.

Hip hop from the circumpolar area is on the program both during TIFF and during Riddu Riđđu

This summer Riddu Riđđu will gather some of the best and most exciting rappers and electronic producers from indigenous communities in the circumpolar area to a truly unique commissioned concert. "Circumpolar Hip Hop Collab" is the name of the concert.

Already during TIFF, the audience can get a taste of what they can expect this summer. In collaboration with Tromsø International Film Festival, Riddu Riđđu arranges a free concert at Studenthuset Drive on Thursday, January 18th. Here, some of the musicians from the commissioned concert will perform; the Greenlandic DJ and music producer Uyarakq together with the Finnish-Sami rapper Ailu Valle.

"It's incredibly cool to be able to arrange a hip-hop evening with two indigenous artists in collaboration with amazing TIFF. For anyone who wants to take a break from the cinema, this is a golden opportunity to feel the pulse of the indigenous Arctic, says festival director Karoline Trollvik.

The concert is free with  age limit 18, the doors open at 8pm and Uyarakq will spin records after the concert.

"Last year, our event during the film festival got completely full so be early! encourages the festival director.

The TIFF audience also gets a chance to see the award-winning short film Morit Elena Morit! (Wake up, Elena, wake up!) who is selected as part of the Films from the North program. The filmmakers are Riddu Session participants Inga-Wiktoria Påve and Anders Sunna, and the film was premiered during Riddu Riđđu 2017.
